Doors

On to the back door finishers ,not straight forward from pictures from other cars they seem to be bent round the door ,expecting issues with this as stainless doesn't like to be bent and has the potential to look rubbish

as supplied from GD

After consultation with Steve we decided to cut the excess off and shape it round the door

Doors

Time to finally fit the doors already had the doors on so knew they would fit however need to fit the door cards first ,stuck the supplied clips to the card first

Then made a cardboard template  to know were the hole want to be
note circled hole more on that later

then transferred this to the door to drill the holes
holes drilled

Had some spare sound deadening  left so put in on the back of the door as it might make a differance ?

On to the other door figured i could just turn the template round and it would fit but no the holes are similar but not the same hence the circles on the card so i kew which ones to avoid on the second door

once done came to fitting the door handle couldnt find anything to fit the thread not metric nor unf ,call to Andy and he tells me it BA !! and advised me to tap it out 5mm .
Put the handle on first to stop the square spreading and tapped out
tapped 5mm

then realized that the hinge covers will be easier to fit now so fitted them with self tappers ,found that the return edge caught the hinge so had to shorten it slightly
one on
then its time for the door finally
one door
I had bought the door finishers from GD and set to to fit these (well Steve did)
They fit at each end of the door trim ( no surprise there then)
the front one is straight forward .
fitted
But the hinge pushes the carpet when shut and catches this ,going to have a think about this but one thought is to shaape the bracket like the mark but more on that later .
The second one seems a bit more complicated so enough for today and a beer

Door carpet and Door

After the Bathroom replace its back on the car !

In order to fit the door properly figured the carpet will need to be in as this might alter the fit of the door

fitting the door carpet is quite straightforward with a bit of pulling and stretching to make the carpet sit right with the rubber ..

door carpet fitted

Could only fit partially as needed to adjust the hinges so a bit of a mess about but happy

moving on to the door card and it comes pre drilled with the hole for the handle

hole cut were the cardboard was pre cut

when trying to fit the door card to the door the hole seemed to be in the wrong place and would make the door card sit wrong when the door is shut .

solution was to move the door handle to fit the card .

door handle fitted on the bracket also drilled/ tapped the sliding bracket to stop it moving

door handle moved to fit the door card ,

now it fits the card and the card follows the contour of the door .the door card sits on the door with the normal push fit door fasteners so fitted those and then mad a cardboard template so i can tranfer this to the door .

Doors Part 1

After initially fitting 1 door early on and realizing all it did was get in the way it came off again until now

The door has an internal handle only which struggles to return on its own so as with other bloggers I attached a spring to the mechanism.

Spring fitted

Next job was to fit the door rubber to see if it fitted snug all the way round the door recess and found that it didn't out with the drum sander to smooth out the ridges and good to go .

door seal uniform

Then its a case of assembling the door which is straight forward and then fitting which is not .After messing about for a while unable to get the door to shut realized that the cap heads holding the door lock were catching swapped those for countersink and getting on a lot better..

Just a case of trial and error moving the hinges about and the door lock in its mountings and then taking it off as not enough room to move the lock etc .

Eventually got the door right with the exception of one bolt that has to be left loose sa will need a spacer under that .

Door fitted (will it still fit with the carpet in ??)

First Door

Only have the Drivers door as there was a problem with the passenger door so it has to be re done .I have been looking at it for a while and thought today I am going to try and fit it .
First thing was to score a line 12mm all the way round the frame .
Followed Dales blog again on this and used a nail in a piece of wood

View of my scored line

Out came the Dremmel again with the mini cutter (found the chuck of the dremmel works loose and the cutter sods off !!!) so plier's tight sorts that .

Now on to the door famous last words again the holes were already drilled for me to accept the lock except the lock didn't fit.
The solution was to cut off the part of the opening bar that is not used and then it fits easy ( picture to follow as I was so engrossed in the moment never took a picture)

Updated picture  showing the cut off bit

Got the door fitted but not quite happy with the closing as the handle does not return so like other builders will need to source a spring to help with this.
Door closes and is close but not spending any more time on it as it will be coming off to fit the spring .
First door well pleased

Doors

Tackled the door hinges today wanted to make sure that they fitted before I painted them ,they didn't .
had to remove the top corner off the hinges to give me enough adjustment to get the two easiest screws in (the top one looks a challenge) .
GD manual says that the hinges can be fed in from the inside of the car after assembly .mine didn't so had to put the locking pins in after (long nose pliers and trusty adhesive tape to the rescue.
The hinge holes were already cut out by GD but still needed a bit of "fettling"

Hinge from inside the car (note the top hole in the gods)

Once I had the hinges swinging then fitted the rest of the door metalwork so i knew were it went ,the was a bag of bolts in the pack and its a bit of a guess what goes were only time will tell
Door metalwork fitted

once happy marked all the bits using saw cuts 1 for left and 2 for right marking the top of the top hinge and bottom of bottom hinge (pinched this idea from Dale !)
and then painted them with Hammerite
Needs to dry before the wife walks into it
